The Department of Paediatrics at Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Government Medical College (BJGMC) and Sassoon General Hospital (SGH) in Pune is committed to delivering exceptional care to children and adolescents through clinical services, education, research, and advocacy. The department is focused on child health, this department ensures comprehensive pediatric care, from newborns to adolescents. Pediatrics focuses on the health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents. The department provides specialized care for neonatal and pediatric conditions, ensuring the best outcomes for young patients.
The department offers a three-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) program in Paediatrics, providing postgraduate training to medical students.
In collaboration with MUHS Nashik, the department has been designated as a ‘Centre of Excellence in Clinical Genetics’ under the maternal and child health program by the Maharashtra government. This center provides comprehensive services, including detailed clinical examinations, counseling, genetic tests like Karyotyping, and newborn screening for congenital hypothyroidism.
Through its dedicated faculty, comprehensive educational programs, and commitment to research and clinical excellence, the Department of Paediatrics at BJGMC continues to make significant contributions to child health in the region.

Mission :
- To provide state of the art patient services encompassing Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy.
- To provide equality in education in the field of Dermatology, venereology and leprosy for undergraduates and postgraduates students.
- Implementation of national health programs related to Leprosy and STIs.
Three Pillars :
- Medical Education: To start DM super-specialty courses and new MUHS affiliated Fellowship courses
- Clinical Services: To start Bone marrow transplant center and diagnostic center for genetic disorders with dedicated sub-specialty OPD
- Research: To strengthen QI projects, original research publication in indexed journal and increase collaboration in national and international protocols
